Youssouf Koumbassa leading Sat 7/14 warmup for the (Tiriba) Triba dance of the Laduma-people, from the Boke and Boffa area in the West of Guinea. Listen to the Triba rhythms and read what Kanyisola writes about other dances. Camp Hye Sierra on a rented dance floor in front of the lake. The rented floor's a lot more fun than the bare concrete underneath!
Youssouf teaches monthly classes at the New York City Center. Buy some of Youssouf's videos teaching Guinea dance, one of many African dance styles.
Youssouf demonstrating Sun 7/15 for dancers waiting in the wings. Last class which went WAAAY overtime... We probably upset Gary big time!
Youssouf taught Sorsone (and maybe Soli Rapide) on Sunday - Thanks, Emily! I'm not sure which dance this comes from. Former Ballet Djoliba dancer can still get some air!!!
